Nanbeige4.3-33B: Apache-2.0 open model aimed at agentic coding

Nanbeige LLM Lab released a 33B dense model with a 512K-token context and weights on Hugging Face; its reported scores beat Qwen3.8-27B on Terminal-Bench 2.1 (80.9 vs 73.0) and DeepSWE (65.5 vs 42.5). Community GGUF and NVFP4 quants appeared within a day, so it is already runnable on a single local GPU.

Why OpenAI and Anthropic cut LLM prices by up to 80% in a few months

Max Woolf walks the timeline from GPT-5.6 Luna's 80% cut to Sonnet 5's launch price becoming permanent, and argues cheap open models like DeepSeek V4 Pro forced the moves. Useful context if you are re-pricing agent workloads this quarter.

IBM CEO: open-weight models are now 90% as good at 10–25% of the token cost

On IBM's Q3 call, Arvind Krishna said the open-vs-frontier gap has shrunk from roughly 70 vs 20–30 in 2024 to near parity, making on-prem open models an easy call for enterprises in "two or three racks".

China lets DeepSeek and MiniMax keep exporting under its new AI tech export rules

Beijing added 23 large-model, agent and compute-cluster technologies to its restricted-export catalogue in mid-October, but open-source-licensed tech is exempt and the two labs were reportedly authorized to keep selling abroad. Open weights stay the safe path for Chinese models reaching Western users.

Agents

JetBrains open-sources ThinkRail, an agentic IDE built around the pi coding agent

An incubator project that runs each agent task in its own git-worktree workspace, keeps durable project knowledge in "living specs" and skills, and wires in PR, CI and review status. It is one of the more concrete takes on parallel coding agents without trashing your checkout.

Simular Agent S4 evolves its own interfaces, lifting a 27B model past GPT-5.5 on OSWorld V2

The open-source meta-agent builds and refines task-specific interfaces instead of relying on screenshots and clicks; Qwen3.8-27B reached 21.3% on 108 desktop tasks versus 13.0% for GPT-5.5, at about $1.10 per task.

cve.now: a free CVE feed with an MCP server for coding agents

Sazabi merged the CVE List, CISA KEV, EPSS and OSV into one plain-English feed (RSS, JSON, API, MCP) with no signup. Handy for letting agents check dependencies after a week that included PHP2Shell, the LiteLLM compromise and a Node.js Brotli RCE.

Farol: a risk map of a pull request for the human who approves it

Open-source CLI and GitHub Action that runs after AI review and ranks the riskiest files, what they reach, diff coverage and contract breaks (TS/React, Go, Python). Aimed squarely at teams where agents write and review the code.

Kubernetes

v1.38: code freeze countdown starts today; beta.0 on November 4

The release team's "Brace yourself, code freeze is coming" notice lands this week, docs placeholder PRs are due October 29, beta.0 ships November 4, and code freeze begins November 16, right after KubeCon NA (November 9–12). GA is planned for December 16, so land any KEP work now.

Sandboxes & agent security

Symantec catches a "Skynet mode" attack agent that hijacks exposed model endpoints

Trapped in an AI honeypot, the agent scans for OpenAI-compatible endpoints with no auth (or a stolen key), borrows them for planning, then exploits web frameworks, harvests secrets and mines crypto for up to 100,000 unattended steps. If you self-host inference behind an OpenAI-style API, make sure it requires authentication.

Tailworm: 11 unpatched Tailscale SSH flaws could spread root across a tailnet

Erica Windisch of Cyberdione Labs reports race conditions and privilege bugs in Tailscale 1.104.2 and headscale 0.29.5, six rated high, that let one compromised approved device escalate and enroll rogue nodes. Tailscale acknowledged them; until fixes ship, tighten SSH policies and disable unneeded forwarding, especially on hosts where agents run.

Backdoored "abliterated" open models raise the case for runtime isolation

Researchers showed a 7B model can be backdoored for under $50 to swap tool calls for credential theft on a hidden trigger, with as few as 125 poisoned examples. Treat unvetted Hugging Face fine-tunes as untrusted code and run their agents in isolated sandboxes with scoped credentials.
